Our Lakes Are Our Business – Stop Invasive Species Spread
Monday, July 12, 2010
A DNR grant to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species, particularly Eurasian water milfoil, zebra mussels and spiny water flea is funding radio ads, a Highway 18 billboard, training for the Sheriff’s water patrol, a survey of private boat launches, and mailing of prevention materials to property owners to target boaters in the Brainerd Lakes Area. The project is a partnership of the Crow Wing Lake and Rivers Alliance (LARA), Crow Wing County Sheriff’s department, Anglers for Habitat, and the Brainerd Lakes Chamber.
I was pleased to record a radio ad on behalf of the Chamber with the message that our lakes are our business! The consistent preventive focus and message of the campaign to boaters is: clean, drain, dray and an awareness of a new law that requires the draining of water from all boats leaving public waters, not just infested waters as the law previously required.
